Specially developed mobile street works software from Mayrise is helping street works inspectors in Anglesey achieve significant gains in efficiency. Daily inspection schedules togther with exports from the Council's Local Street Gazetteer (LSG) and Ordnance Survey MasterMap are downloaded to the mobile devices at the start of each shift. Using MAYRISE Street Works Mobile software together with it's integrated mapping module inspectors can easily locate and identify scheduled inspections, record observations and complete ad hoc tasks. It is estimated the Council has saved 1,500 staff hours per annum through the use of the mobile system
Using MAYRISE Street Works Mobile software running on the mobile devices daily inspection schedules are downloaded at the start of each shift. Prior to the introduction of the automated system Inspectors would spend a considerable amount of time preparing inspection schedules and printing out maps and report forms. In the field MAYRISE MapNow provides access to integrated Ordnance Survey mapping and the Council's street gazetteer facilitating the location and identification of street works past and present. A series of drop down menus ensures inspection results are recorded and reported in accordance with procedure and the recorded data is uploaded to the centralised MAYRISE Street Works system.
"We have estimated that each inspector is saving approximately three hours a day with mobile working," commented Dewi Williams, Head Of Service, Highways & Waste Management, Isle of Anglesey County Council.
"As a direct result of the reduction in administrative duties we are now completing 100% of Category C inspections, up from just 30% prior to the introduction of mobile working. This is saving the Council money," Williams continued. "Category C inspections are carried out on utility works prior to the utility's guarantee expiring. Defects found during the guarantee period are charged to the relevant utility company where as remedying defects reported after this time becomes the responsibility Council."
