North Lincolnshire Council is using the latest information technology to improve the management of refuse collections. This has led to increased domestic recycling performances and customer service levels. Using a new MAYRISE™ Waste Management system, the council is managing refuse collection rounds, monitoring the performance of external contractors and recording feedback from refuse crews, contractors and residents. Since using MAYRISE™ to facilitate the change from weekly to fortnightly refuse collections, the council has seen a huge increase in domestic recycling rates from 24 per cent to 40 per cent in just six months. This dramatic increase makes North Lincolnshire the best performing Unitary Council in Yorkshire and the Humber Region.
"MAYRISE enables us to accurately record and effectively manage the large volume of information we generate and receive as part of our waste collection and disposal responsibilities," said Sue Daynes, Waste Reduction Officer. "Using Mayrise we are able to respond quickly and informatively to enquiries from residents, manage all our collection duties and monitor contractor performances. We can also use the system for round restructuring, the introduction of new schemes and to improve our communication with residents". The council uses the system to record individual refuse and recycling rounds and details relating to specific properties. This includes entitlement to assisted collection and waste related property history. It also uses the system to log enquiries from the public, feedback from crew and incidents of fly tipping or abandoned vehicles. This allows the council to maintain an accurate and up-to-date waste service history for every property and street in the area. The council’s customer contact centre uses MapNow, the integrated mapping tool from Mayrise Systems. It identifies and pin points individual properties or accurately locates waste incidents such as fly tipping. MapNow provides instant on-screen access to detailed mapping and can therefore be used to generate route maps for refuse collection crews, additional information to support ad hoc works orders and to assist with overall management of collection rounds.
